Tbi 911 / 411
Hello again everyone,
After I replaced my timing belt, I set the timing to 8 BTDC. I thought the idle was running to high so I found a screw on the carbuerator and adjusted it. After turning it I dont know how many times, it didnt do anything for the high idle, so I adjusted it back to what I thought it was. I then did some research (on here, this forum is great). ![]() Thanks to doctorbill for the post on how to post pics. Hope I did it correctly. All I had to edit with was PAINT so it looks like a kindergartener wrote this. Anyways I read that the screw I turned (in red) is the fuel pressure regulator and i shouldnt have messed with it. And to adjust the idle speed its the other screw(in blue). Is that right? Can anyone guide me what the correct procedure is for setting the idle and basicly setting the TBI to specs. My MPG dropped to 24 on my last fill up. After I fixed my issue of the shredded timing belt I thought I was Joe Cool Mechanic but, realized that I may have FUBAR'd the TBI. PS: Sidebar question I was at the junk yard scavaging parts. What is this thing that is circled in red? ![]() My air intake duct was flopping around in the engine bay. I found parts at the junk yard that install to it. Its some curved tubing thats attached to a box that is installed ito the front of the right wheelwell. I should have taken a pic before I installed it, but oops. Anyways, what is it and what is its purpose? If it was removed, as mine was, how does it affect the air/fuel intake? |

Re: Tbi 911 / 411
hate to tell you but you one in red is the right one, the blue one you messed with was the throttle stop screw and your not supposed to mess with it. if adjusting the red one does nothing the car wasn't warmed up enough or you have a vacuum leak somewhere. the thing in red is supposed to have a big hose going from there to aircleaner

Re: Tbi 911 / 411
The fuel pressure regulator is the square green thingy on top with four torx screws holding it on, it's not adjustable, at least not easily. The screw you messid with first is the proper one, but you shouldn't ever have to mess with it. If your idle is off, something else is wrong.
The weird thing behind your headlight is your cold air intake. It's tuned for sound and designed to remove water from the air. Usually removed for high performance, but the difference is negligable, you might get a little more vroom vroom sound without it.
