Transmission flush manual

I know how to change the gear oil for the transfer case and rear differential. You drain out of the bottom plug and then fill through the plug halfway up. And for that I am going to be using Redline Heavyweight Shockproof Gear oil.

I read somewhere that the transfer case takes .5quarts, the rear diff. takes .9quarts, and the tranny awd(2.3quarts) Fwd(2.1) quarts.

For the transmission I have read mostly that using BG synchroshift is the way to go. I have never done a tranny flush on my car or any manual though. If anyone can tell me step by step how to on the transmission or has a site that does that would be sweet.

Re: Transmission flush manual

I am guessing that it is a drain plug and fill plug like the rear diff and xfer case but does anyone know for sure????

Re: Transmission flush manual

yeah, their is a drain plug and a fill plug... i did it on a 2g GS 420A never on a 4g63... but i will be soon... you remove the fill plug, then pull the drain plug so it will empty... and someone else chime in about fluids because i will be doing mine, and cant decide between redline shockproof or BG Syncro shift...

edit: i have also heard good things about royal purple gear oil... anyone?

Re: Transmission flush manual

All the places gear oil is used, you fill until the fluid comes out the fill plug hole. That's why it is critical to have the car on a level surface. I use Redline shockproof in the t-case and rear end. The tranny was a mix of pennzoil synchromesh and redline. Gives benefits of both. Synchromesh by itself is too thin for adequate protection. I can't remember the mix. I think it was 2 bottles of redline, the rest synchromesh. I found this out on tuners somewhere recommended by shepherd himself.

Re: Transmission flush manual

But how exactly do you do it on a manual? What/where are the plugs etc.

Re: Transmission flush manual

That is for a manual. The fill on the t-case is right at the front just below the oil pan. The drain is on bottom pointing directly at the ground. You will see it. Both fill and drain on the tranny are on the far left side. Want pics from a 1G?

Re: Transmission flush manual

Here they are anyway. Went out with my phone:

Tranny drain/fill. Drain hard to see but gives you an idea:

Re: Transmission flush manual

That was just on normal quality and low resolution. I hope they help you when the snow clears.

I was thinking today about this thread while working on my car and thought about what I used to fill them up. I found laying around here a large syringe type thing that is used for mixing and measuring oil and gas for 2-cycle engines. Attached it to a long hose and it makes it pretty easy.

Re: Transmission flush manual

I don't know. I just found it laying around. Any parts store I assume. Doesn't seem like a specialty part or anything.

Re: Transmission flush manual

I did the tranny fluid and rear diff today. For the tranny I used amsoil synthetic and for the rear diff I used redline shockproof. The tranny shifts noticeably easier now with the amsoil I noticed it quite a bit.
