Grand Am 3.4 intake and Head gaskets
Im looking at buying a 2004 Grand am GT with the 3.4 engine. Ive heard that these engines have had some trouble with intake and head gaskets going out. What year did GM start putting updated gaskets in these engines?? Thanks Alot

Re: Grand Am 3.4 intake and Head gaskets
Yes 2003 the gaskets were revised, though any model year can experiance either gasket blowing if the car was neglected due to overheating.
The v6 is less trouble then the 2.4 , the 2.2 ecotec is a nicer motor then the 2.4 IMO and experiance.

Re: Grand Am 3.4 intake and Head gaskets
My sister bought a 04' grand am with the 3.4L V6 and far as I know the lower intake gasket it isn't leaking. I was thinking though to replace the lower gaskets anyway. Should I replace them? Or would a good coolant flush work?
Thanks

Re: Grand Am 3.4 intake and Head gaskets
the 04 shouldnt need new gaskets, they were revised in 2003 so some 03's have the new and some old.
Unless it shows signs of a coolant/oil leak I wouldnt bother changing them. A good cooling system flush does wonders !
