Help ASAP w/ removing fuel pump? 92 lumina euro
My fuel pump went out so my boyfriend is trying to install a new one with the help (?) of a Chilton's manual. We've got the fuel tank dropped, and the hoses, etc., disconnected, but now the book says "Using tool J 35731, remove the fuel level meter assembly retaining cam, fuel level meter assembly and the o-ring from the tank." We don't have this tool, and looking at a picture of one, it looks pretty specialized. How do we get this thing out of there? Can we just pry it up with a screwdriver or what? Does it unscrew, and if so, which way? Any advice (other than taking it to a real mechanic
too late for that now!) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Take hammer & brass punch and tap lock ring to loosen, tap evenly on one tab then another, then lift and twist to remove unit. Installation is reverse process. Be sure when reassembling to be sure the o-ring is seated properly to prevent leakage.
