Is there any 05 Camry i4 TSBs for loss of coolant?
My wife’s 05 Camry with 60k on it, started loosing coolant lately. I don’t see any evidence of coolant in the oil or any leaks. Added some distilled water to the cooling system after she started complaining of gargling sounds under dash in the morning, I checked the level and it was lower then low. Now in about a month it’s back to low.
Does anyone experiencing a similar problem or knows of any TSB regarding this problem? Thanks, |

Well, if its low again, it's going somewhere. It's gotta be leaking somewhere. Since she is hearing it gargling under the dash, see if it is leaking into the cab. Check if the carpet is wet at all.

bring back to the dealer right away, still under warranty, I think
my friend has 02, same as 05 generation has the same problem and overheat, he spend over $3K to change engine head and other things on Christmas, he said "that's a gift", sucks |

OP,
As was mentioned, the coolant is going somewhere. If under warranty, it's back to the dealer. In any event, someone is going to have to put a pressure tester on the rad and see if it holds pressure and also check/listen for leaks. |

Re: Is there any 05 Camry i4 TSBs for loss of coolant?
Well,
I've taken it to the dealer and after $85 they checked the cooling system. Dealer service never seize to amaze me. Service writer waited till I called him and said he was just going to call me about my car, there is no leaks and they checked the cylinders with the “boroscope” and it showed nothing either. When I asked him if they’ve seeing anything unusual inside the cylinders, he said they actually did not “boroscoped” it but recommend to do that @ $275 a pop. I said forget it and came to pick the car up that evening. So far it holds the same level as when I got it from the dealer. I made a mark on the coolant reservoir on hot coolant. Will keep yall posted. |

Do yourself a favor. Beg, borrow, buy, rent, or steal a pressure tester. Put it on and bring the system up to cap pressure. Let it sit overnight if needed, then look for a trail of coolant. I think the dealer is blowing smoke.

Re: Is there any 05 Camry i4 TSBs for loss of coolant?
a small amount of coolant loss is normal. if you have fluid in the bottle, at all, youe system should be full.
after a few years, some does evaporate. ive serviced 05s that have never been serviced at a dealer properly be below the low mark just from evap. and fyi - if its still in its 3yr 36k warranty, they should do it ALL for free. they might not be happy about it, but if you are insistent enough or not satisfied with any answer they give you, demand that they investigate fully. speak to service manager or the salesperson you bought the car from if necessary. |

Re: Is there any 05 Camry i4 TSBs for loss of coolant?
And the saga continues! I never was able to find a pressure tester that fits this radiator. Probably a dealer only item
Non the less I am thinking it’s time to change the coolant after 80+ k on this thing (boy she drives a lot) and I was going to put some kind of sealer like “Bars” in just in case. I suspect it is in fact just evaporation of the cheap coolant, because it would disappear at a lot greater rate then it does. So am I asking fro problems using “Bars” ? Also how reliable are the water pumps? If it goes another 80k great if I can get only another 20k out of it I’d rather change the timing belt and water pump now. What think you? Thanks! |

If they are as reliable as the water pump in the 5S-FE, it is due to be changed. It is not a bad time to change the timing belt and water pump.

In the future, you should replace the coolant more often that every 80K. Every 30K is not a bad idea.
