Kiss my rear 4 bucks a gallon!!!
Just read an article on yahoo news about the soaring gas prices. Really ticks me off. Oil refineries are complaining their not making any money!!!
Are you serious?!?!? The so called experts say we'll see 4 bucks a gallon by late April early May. Just find it funny that all these places not making any money but EVERY QUARTER they post RECORD PROFITS!!!That makes me appreciate my Metro even more. (especially to start looking for a spare) Guys at work have been ranting and raving but when I tell them "Even if prices were 5 bucks a gallon, it'll only cost me 40 bucks to fill up!" They still don't want anything to do with a small economical car, let alone a Metro. Thank god a guy at work kept bragging about his Metro otherwise I'd never have bought one. The good thing is now that everytime I work on the Metro, the old lady won't complain because of the high gas prices! So it's almost a win win. I'm really hoping that this weather warms up as I'm down about 5-6 mpg's from this ungodly cold weather. So that way I can stick it to Exxon even more. lol. Anyway, I'm getting off my soapbox now.

Re: Kiss my rear 4 bucks a gallon!!!
I couldn't agree MORE! Matter of fact driving to work & home again in Pipsqueak, (I love Pipsqueak so much) Sometimes ponder how tragic it would be if some idiot banged into me an made a nasty dent! I get more protective of my Metro as gas prices rise! This is the car for our modern times these days! I get between 44 & 47 MPG at 195 thousand miles on the odometer.
Can' t be the original engine (guess it's possible though) It makes me MAD that this technology has already been marketed and discontinued in favor of higher profits (more expensive cars & less fuel economy) Detroit is crazy! We're on our own to protect & nurture our Metro's It's a shame I don't see more on the road. Maybe I should start a Metro car club? Hmmmmm .... I guess TeamSwift has that covered. Hang in there guys! We are the only smart car owners out here! (next to the electric crowd) Drive defensively and hang on .. it's gonna be a wild summer! Stock up on food & ammo! (hah) DangerDude |

Re: Kiss my rear 4 bucks a gallon!!!
Detroit isn't crazy, they're doing what they thought their lobbying would guarantee them: a fat market for 'light' trucks, where $2/gal. was the necessary ingredient. They simply did not count on fuel prices rising due to oil going from $25/bbl to $50 then upward to $100.
Their strategy, decided on in the early '80s as part of the Reagan de-regulatory push (got gov't 'off the backs of industry'), worked well for their bottom lines until early this century. So well, in fact, that they decided to base their whole business model on the precarious assumption that fuel would be cheap forever. They wanted to sell what they could build cheaply and make high profits from: trucks/SUVs/minivans - the very class of vehicles they lobbied to get exempted from the CAFE requirements for passenger vehicles. They are so desperate that they even advertise 35 MPG as 'great.' Less that 40 just ain't squat. Unacceptable. Try again.
