1996 to 1997 DOHC power loss?
so for 1997, the DOHC n/a lost ~4 hp. Anyone know the reason for this? I am assuming it has something to do with the new OBDII ECU...but i really dont know. What other mechanical changes were made for '97?
also, are the front ends of the 97 and 98 identical? and one more question....are slotted rotors directional??? If so, which way should the slots "tilt"? I have mine tilting clockwise on the driver's side and counter on the passanger. When i put them on i didnt think it mattered, but suddenly i doubt my decision... Anyways, thanks guys. I'm sure one of you can help me out with this one... (stealthee?) |

97-98 bumpers are identical. i don't think the slotted rotors really matter which way, some are directional, some aren't. if one faces one way, and the other side face the other way... then you obviously don't have directional rotors, so it really doesn't matter

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...shi-3000gt.htm "1997 Mitsubishi 3000: Dodge Stealths dropped out of the market after 1996, but the Mitsubishi 3000GT carried on with minor styling touch-ups. A lower-priced base coupe joined the 3000GT lineup, carrying a single cam Mitsubishi-built 3.0-liter V6 that produced 161 horsepower. The dual-cam engine in the SL lost four horsepower." as for the rotors, thats what i would figure, but i know some, like stoptechs, are directional. That's why i though my cheap-os were directional, because they are not the same. Right now i have them so that the slots tilt in the opposite direction of rotation on all 4 wheels. If both the left and right rotors were identicle, they would tilt one way on one side and opposide on the other (with respect to wheel rotation). |

Re: 1996 to 1997 DOHC power loss?
I was checking Stealth316 and it looks like there was a HP rating loss between 96 and 97 from 222 to 218... It doesn't appear to be OBDII related since that transition occurred between 94/95/96 (94/95 was the OBDI/II hybrid).
I am not sure why there would be a 4HP power loss... I would only hazard to guess it was probably related to SAE testing methods (or that lawsuit where Mazda miata owners sued for Mazda rating their engines higher then they were testing at) rather then a design change. Technically the slots on the rotor should contact on the inner part of the hub first and continue out so material can be ejected outwards... So it think you have it on correctly (not that it really matters since the effect is pretty insignificant). The direction matters more on the way the venting is designed. |

Re: 1996 to 1997 DOHC power loss?
The ratings were 222hp for up to 96, and 218hp for 97+
Nothing on the engine or the tune changed, mitsu just started to rate it closer to its real HP number.
