95 Z71 shifting?? HELP

I just changed the tranny fluid and filter on my 95 silverado 1500 4x4 with the 4L60E and after i changed it and filled it back up my rpm gauge, mph gauge, and mileage, and shift indicator light does not work. And it is stuck in 3rd gear and does not have over drive or 1st. It only has 3rd and 2ed and to get 2ed you have to shift it to 2ed. Any one know what might be wrong? i checked all the wires and conectors and could not find any thing unpluged.

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery cable for 60 seconds then reconnecting? If that doesn't work, it may be the ignition switch under the dash. They have been known to cause problems like this.

Re: 95 Z71 shifting?? HELP

I just finished rebuilding a 4l60e out of my buddy's 98 z71, what i found is the only thing that can cause loss of reverse and overdrive is a busted reaction sunn shell. this is a very common weakpoint in these and it should have been a recall. it is about a hundred dollar part for the new heat treated model. but it is a very hard fix, deep inside the tranny. but i am pretty sure it is the cause. andyou dont have to do anything for it to go bad. if your band does not release it will strip out the sunshell everytime .like i said i just rebuilty my freinds so if you have any questions just ask

With ignition switch on, check for voltage at the trans fuse(interior fuse panel). It is an electrical problem and it could be a blown fuse, ignition switch, bad wire. The tranny needs 12v to pin E on its connector, I think its a pink wire. The pin may be corroded some and not making a good connection
