Disco cruiser '74 Chevy ready to roll! Full restoration of an original.

This is a restored '74 Chevrolet Caprice. A friend of mine who is into mainly Porsches was given this model. This is the only year of full-size Impala/Caprice models from '58 to '76 that I was missing. So he handed it over to me as a Christmas gift a year ago

The original builder built it completely stock from the original annual '74 Caprice kit by MPC, and it came apart easily w/o any damage.

I didn't do a WIP thread on it. You'll see it all here.

This is how it looked when I got it:

It was not a glue bomb, it came apart nicely:

It came back nekkid from a date with a stripper

Decided to go with a vintage "Malaise Era" paint scheme of lime yellow w/medium green interior and top. Whitewalls were done w/a narrow white gel pen and a circle template. The lime yellow is a concoction of Testors bottle enamels and clear and the green top/interior is mixed from Tamiya flat green and buff acrylics, topped off w/some of the new Tamiya TS semigloss clear that was decanted and airbrushed.

And here it is basically finished. I've forgotten to do the chrome trim over the front wheel openings and the entire A pillar is supposed to be chrome. Oops ! I'll get to that later today. Tomorrow, for one day only at the Birmingham Classic NNL, it will be riding as a Donk

Looks really good, amazing the difference some decent detail painting and foil work can make!

Awesome job. The pics where it's white reminded me of the '75 Caprice I owned back in the mid '80s. It looked basically the same and was white with rust and Bondo patches, a true "Winter Rat" Although the outside was falling apart, the inside was still in great condition with it's red velour interior, (no rips , stains etc.)Thanks for the memories.

Not my personal taste, but nice to see green recycling efforts.

Excellent work, I notice the hubcaps and tires in particular look a whole lot better!

I'm totally NOT into american cars (or should I say aircraft carriers, says he who once drove a 1992 Suzuki Swift GTi).

But I'm totally into the way you restored this one. And I too like your colour choice.
