Intermittent starting problems

I have a 1996 3.1 litter Ciera. It will start and run fine all day, then it won't start. Engine will turn over but will not fire off. It has good fuel pressure when trying to start.

Re: Intermittent starting problems

So, when the problem occurs, it cranks over ok, but it doesn't fire......

You say you have good fuel pressure....was this checked with a gage?

When it doesn't start, have you checked for spark?

If you have spark on all cylinders, and it doesn't start, try spraying carb cleaner into the intake to see if it starts.....if it starts and runs as long as you spray, then you have a fuel delivery problem.....if fuel pressure is checked with a gage and is over 40 psi, then maybe the injectors are not firing....this could be due to a SECURITY problem......

Does your key have a black resistor chip on it? Does it have "PK3" stamped on it? If it doesn't, you may have the PassLock system.....when you crank the vehicle and it doesn't start, release the key(don't turn to off).......does the SECURITY or THEFT LIGHT flash?

Has the car been scanned for "P" and "B" codes?
