2001 cavalier wont start
Ok this is an 2001 cavalier 4dw
I was driveing down the highway and it cut out Lucky I was getting off and made it off the highway. The car started after a few minutes. I put fuel in it and ran for about 1/2 hour stalled and started right back up ran for about another 1/2 hour and I parked it Noticed the fuel guage read empty. the fuel guage jumped to full and car started. car stalled fuel guage went to empty. So car runns when fuel guage is reading. Now what the car is doing- No spark, No fuel (fuel pump checked good fuel pump not comming on) Scanner is getting no communication with car computer Fuel guage reads empty, security light staying on I'm kinda thinking maybe the bcm is bad but would like to check some grounds. I just have no clue where they are anyone?? Any more info I can provide?? |

Re: 2001 cavalier wont start
Does the MIL come on when you turn the key? Do you have B+ at pin 16 of the data link connector? I believe it should be hot all the time.
Pin 4 at the data link connector is chassis ground Pin 5 is signal ground Some of my info says to do a voltage drop test on the ground pins with the scanner hooked up. You backprobe the data link connector. I don't remember the specs, I saw the info in a trade publication, I just don't remember which one. I have heard of technicians using an led testlite to see if pin 4&5 go to ground. I'm not sure GM recommends doing it that way. Maybe some of the others have some better ideas. |

Re: 2001 cavalier wont start
similar thing happened to me after driving up from south florida when i was on 95. it did it about 3 times on my way back. i ended up changing out the fuel pump a month or so later and it hasn't done it since. but i have no idea if that could be an issue.

drop the fuel tank and replace the sending unit, and fuel pump. I think thats your best bet.

Re: 2001 cavalier wont start
Thanks for the help. The problem was a broken wire. I don't know where yet the mechanic still has the car. I suspect it is in the fender that has no splash guard. The guy I bought it from was suppose to give me one but that didn't happen. I just hope That
isn't going to be too much. The mechanic needs a transmission fixed I'm hopping I can barter trade with him on that. I did rebuild them for 7 years. Thanks again |
