99 Tahoe brakes

When applying the brakes lightly, on good, dry pavement, and at relatively low speeds, the pedal chatters like the ABS is activating. I'm looking at buying this Tahoe. Any ideas?

if it is ABS at low speeds this is a front wheel sensor that has rusted out of position or possibly the front wheel bearing... if this is only a abs braking issue at slow speeds and there is no noises comming from front end then the rusted sensors are most likely the problem.....you may be covered as this problem was widespread during these years.... check out NHTSA for listing of your vehicle....

Re: 99 Tahoe brakes

I couldn't find anything related to brakes for a '99 Tahoe on the NHTSA website. The truck is in Michgan, so corrosion is a definite possibility. Thanks for the info. Any common problems with the ABS modules on these? Any other issues to be aware of?

If you are buying from a dealer or used car lot make them fix it before you buy it.

If not take it to a repair shop that has a ABS caspable scanner to check it out and post back any codes.

Speed sensors will/can cause things like that.
But needs tested out good first.

your problem description is sensor, if abs was on all the time i would go get dtc for abs system or just replace abs module.... ... if you have a meter check for 500mv on front sensor left/right front wheels spin by hand .... if not bring to a repair shop for testing as i stated the rust pushes them away from bearing /metal ring then the sensor output drops because of the distance increasing....my vehicle 2000 sil 5.3 4x4 had this recall and rust is a problem in this area under the front brake rotors where these sensors are mounted.....

Re: 99 Tahoe brakes

Thanks for the input. It sounds like a wheel sensor. I'm not buying the truck from a dealer or an individual. My company is getting rid of it and I'll most likely get it dirt cheap. It is sold as-is, where-is. This doesn't sound like a major fix though, so I'm not too worried. If I get it for what I think I will, I'll have a good cushion for repairs.
