Help me please!

My check engine light has been coming on and going off for the last about 6 months. Now it will come on and stay on for 1-3 days then go off for a few weeks then comes back on. Theres no real way of telling when its going to come on or go off. So I found out the service engine code ws P1340 which means camshaft position sensor B circuit malfunction. Now I have no idea what I do to fix this? Does anyone know what it means? or if its a big issue?

Re: Help me please!

New camshaft position sensor and o-ring.

i wouldn't embark on it unless you know a fair bit about mechanics and have the tools. not particularly hard, but you go to be careful.

I know a bit about mechanics but I don't have any tools I just moved and got this light.. Shows my luck. Would it be expensive to get someone to do it?

Re: Help me please!

let me guess.....nissan 3.5L engine.

Very common problem. Takes a 10mm socket and about 30 seconds to replace it.

if its not a nissan 3.5L engine, it might not be the sensor itself is failing. Many VVT engines set that code when the VVT solenoid is gummed up from not changing your oil often enough

As always, it really helps if you tell us what vehicle we're talking about.

yup, usually dirty oil

We call those codes the "change your oil, stupid" code.

Some engine cleaner often helps, such as seafoam.
