2000 X Terra ABS problems

Hey there- hoping someone may be able to give me some insight to a problem I am having. 00 Xbox with 170k, new engine&trans within the past 10k. We inherited the truck about 3 years ago an its rarely driven. Last year, my wife was driving it and and tried to stop for a light and said the pedal went to the floor and she went through the light. I could never get the problem to repete itself, but we took it in anyway. Our mechanic who we trust said everything was shot and unsafe, so $800 later we have new roters, pads all around and 2 new calipers because they were shot.
ABS light would come on occasionally (I know I should have taken it back sooner, but this was less than 800 milesin 1 year) but all seemed fine until I tried to stop for a light and pedal went to the floor, but regained stopping power about 20 feet into the intersection. Took it back to the shop and every time they get the ABS light to come on and try to test it (grounding the 2 OBD pins) the fuse blows and cancels out the code.
My OBD scanner won't pull ABS codes, but is this even do-able with that year. Thaks in advance for any insight you all can give me.

You don't ground 2 OBD terminal pins, it's just one of them.

I think there's still air in the system, or the master cylinder is shot.

To get abs codes you need to have a scanner that is capable of reading them. The paperclip trick won't work with that system. Sounds to me like the abs modulator is failing and leaving the bypass valve open when you are braking, which causes the pedal to go to the floor.

Uh, a paperclip isn't long enough, but there is a "trick" to getting the system to flash out a code. It's just a matter of grounding a particular terminal on the OBD connector.

Right, but every time they ground it out, the fuse blows and cancels out the code

Which means have the dealer or a reputable brake shop in your area diagnose the system. Most readers on the market are not capable of reading abs or transmission codes. If they keep blowing a fuse, they are grounding the wrong pin and could eventually do more damage than has already been done.
