99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Whats up?
So I been working on this car a little lately, so I figured I'd do a little update since its almost finished, and I'm bored.
Anyways I think most people on here know about the car, its a 1999 Eclipse Spyder GS, 2.4L 5 speed N/A, turbo charged.

I've had a problem controlling boost on the car since I turboed it, so I'm converting to external wastegate, and do a few other things while its apart.

New stuff:
-SBR manifold
-TiAL 38mm wastegate
-Modified my lower I/C pipe for more ground clearance
-T bolt clamps on the piping
-DIY JAW wideband
-Custom creative Dump tube
-Pusher fans mounted on the front of the radiator

I should be done with it this week, then I'm going to have to make a decision on what to do....This car may end up being sold along with my Civic.

Heres some pics of what I've done so far:

Initial teardown

Gettin there

Washed it up

I live in the middle of no where

Gettn her back together

Sezzy!

Nice! Any reason on why you might sell it? Where do you live again? That's what it looks like outside our shop right now...dead grass and muddy fields, yay for detailing cars in the spring .

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Thanks. Well I've decided that I cant really afford 2 cars, and I'm kind of wanting to get something newer and low mileage (and stock) to drive that I dont have to worry about breaking. I would love to get an Evo of any year with less than 50k on it. But the prices on those are still kinda high and I don't have alot of money to play with. Another option is an SRT4. I've never wanted an SRT4 but my home boy has one that I could get for a good price. So, I've got alot of thinking and looking to do before I decide.
Oh and I live out in the country in North Carolina in a small ass town. I love it too.

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Boo for selling the 2.4 turbo. You haven't had any problems with the car breaking down have you? I dont see how that car isin't just as reliable as before.

The new parts look good. Just wait until you can pull every gear without having to let off because of boost creep.

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Actually it hasnt been too bad as far as reliability, but I'm just thinking of getting something newer with low miles.

Built motor = lower miles

How is the JAW coming along. I haven't heard anything on that in a while. Have you gotten it hooked up yet?

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

About the JAW, I got a box to house it in, made my wiring harness and got the Bosch sensor from NAPA, and yes I have the display also. The only thing left to do to it is weld the bung I have in my DP and put it in the car.

I like my silly ass SOHC head. But I planned on putting a 1g DOHC head on it though, if I ever built my 6 bolt 4g64. But oh well, who knows.

How much would y'all pay for this car if y'all wanted it? I mean, it will be put together and running and have the 18's on it. What you think its worth?

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

uh, no deal.

Well, I want to get a nice evo. I've got 5 grand saved up now. I can sell the honda for about 2,500, that 7,500. Now depending on how much I can sell this car for will determine how nice of an evo I can get...

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Im interested in the supporting mods you did on this 4G64. Do you have another thread with the complete build up or list of mods done?

www.4g64.150m.com has some good info on turbocharging the Spyder GS.

Re: 99 Eclipse Spyder GS Turbo (The Red Rag)

Update. I got the car put back together minus the wideband.

Heres some new stuff I've done:
-Finished assembly
-Scraped the stock fans in favor of a 12" universal S blade slim fan
-Wired the new fan to a Thermostatic control switch (not sure of proper term)
-Got an O2 bung welded into my Apex'i downpipe
-Finished the Dump tube (not pictured)

The control for the fan

Skeet quality fan install

So much more room behind the radiator

Gettin a lil jump from the old school pimpin Dodgeskee

Very Very nice... How much do you think you're going to try to get for it if you sell it?
