97 Grand prix gt transmission

just wondering if a 4t65e will work in place of a 4t60e the car originaly came with the 4t60e

Welcome to AF.

It could be adapted if you have the time and money but it is not that easy and not a one for one swap out operation. The 4T60E uses a vacuum modulator to help control line pressure. Whereas the 4T65E uses a PCS (Pressure Control) solenoid controlled by the PCM module so it is fully electronic. To start you would need a PCM module, main wiring harness from PCM module to the autotransaxle electrical connector. The pinouts and total amount of wires used is different.

You're better off getting a 4T60E in good condition. IMO the 4T60E is more reliable than a 4T65E.
