97 grand prix manual conversion?

Recently purchased my 97 grand prix gt and was wonder if ther was a manual transmission that would bolt up to my motor? The little research that I have done leads me to believe they only make them for the four bangers..Is this true?

Re: 97 grand prix manual conversion?

why would you want a manual? Autos are so much easier to drive, and plus the cost for all the modifications in order to adapt a manual would totally not be worth it.

And there are no manual trannys for a fwd 3800 that I am aware of.

Re: 97 grand prix manual conversion?

Because i have my truck for the automatic and need something that will keep me from being bored while im driving. Plus better gas mileage and faster quarter mile times. Also easier in the snow. The money put into it would be well worth it in the long run.

Keep dreaming....

There was a getrag 282 that could be swapped into a 3.1 Vin T I think, but nothing for a 3.8

Re: 97 grand prix manual conversion?

As much as I would love to have a stick in my GT, it's not a viable or cost effective swap. How bad will it suck to go finding all the parts, bolting them up, only to find that there isn't a PCM program that will work with the manual trans? IF they iron out those issues, and my trans ever went out, I'd be seriously thinking about it too. At this time though, unless you're a master fabricator and PCM guru, it's not a viable option.

Re: 97 grand prix manual conversion?

the Getrag out of the fiero will bolt up how ever it can not take the torque. The Fiero guys get away with it cause the car is about 1000 pounds lighter. The PCM is a non issue as you can have it programmed minus the tranny. ZZP offers one for use in sand rails and such.

How ever the work involved is beyond practicle. You'd be better off doing a RWD conversion.
