Cool ECT - What Does It Do?

Checking up on ECT (Electronic Control Transmission) and I was wondering, what are the benefits of it? Would it be a good idea to use it in the snow time when it gets slippery? I thought it may help as another form of traction control.

Re: ECT - What Does It Do?

All this does is change the shift points in the transmission. It would have no effect on the traction control, except that you want it to upshift as soon as possible in the snow.

Re: ECT - What Does It Do?

I have ECT turned on the freeway. I helps with making quick passes.

I don't like having ECT turned on all the time. It takes the tranmission forever to shift.

it also effects gas milage especially in-town. Beacuse it winds the engine out farther in each gear, it burns more fuel.

I now leave my ECT in power mode all the time on my 97 Avalon XLS, because it fits better for the way I drive. I also graphed my gas mileage over many months in each mode, and there was no difference. It was about 23.MPG average either way. I also compared regular gas to premium, and it was also the same MPG, and I didn't really notice any performance difference (but that doesn't stop me from using premium now anyway).

My previous car, an 89 Mazda 626, 5-speed, also graphed the same MPG (32.MPG) over many months with regular vs premium, but eventually I had to use premium to keep it from pinging under medium-hard accelleration.

Re: ECT - What Does It Do?

ECT- the button that can turn a mild sedan into a sporty sleeper (w/ a few other mods)

this button moves the shift points to higher rpms, but it varies on gas input and acceleration.

i drive a 96 avy XLS and recently adjusted my tranny to shift faster and harder this sucked w/ ect off b/c the trans would shift earlier and make the car fell slow and clunky.

i drive w/ it on all the time it really will give you a power advantage. this applie only to drivers who regularly drive in high rpm ranges and use their cars to full capacity.

when on this switch will allow the engine to redline under heavy load and will also allow the engine to downshift to achieve better acceleration(downshifts from say 3rd at 3000rpm to 2nd at 5000rpm)

as for fuel consumption this switch makes the car GUZZLE gas but then again i have a heavy foot and wont hesitate at laying the pedal to the floor at stoplights.
so

in short
ECT=more acceleration=more power= more gas= more engine wear

use it if you like that sporty feeling and the look on the guys face after you smoke his beamer

peace
