weird pop noise when accelerating hard.

ok so i took my 92 tsi 2.0l turbo out for a ride when i got it acouple weeks ago. and when i accelerated hard when i got around like 5-6000rpm it sounded like a back fire pop. so i shifted to the next gear and it does it in every gear. would that be a fuel cut? i dont want it to be too big of a problem as to were it blows the motor. cause it has 78k on it with a brand new head, head gasket, turbo, water pump. and the car does have a manual boost controller if that has any help also.. any info would help alot. thanks

What mods have been done to it. Was the pop coming from the exhaust? You're probably just running rich, which could be due to a number of reasons. What do you have the boost set at, and what boost were you at when you heard the noise?

well the only mods were a boost controller, exhaust, and thats it.. and the boost was at like 17psi. .. and after i drove it i installed a front mount and i have not drivin it yet. cause the noise comes out the exhaust and is just like a small back fire noise, and it does it around like 5500-6000

Could be gas burning..I've heard tons and tons of turbo cars make that 'pop'

mine does it... some people tell me at night, they can see the inside of my muffler light up... which is COOL!

haha thats sweet.. alright thanks i just wanted to make sure it wasnt going to destroy my engine.. just wanted to know if it was disasterous or not.
