water pump replacement

Does anyone know the proper maintenance schedule for the Aveo water pump? My 07 has nearly 120k on it and will soon be replacing the timing belt again. The manual only recomends the belt every 60k and the coolant at 150k. Any known problems with the Aveo water pumps? Need to decide if I should just replace it and the coolant early at 120k or run the risk it will make 180k. Any ideas out there?

Replace the pump at 120k. I don't think it will last until 180k. Besides if it breaks it'll break the belt which in turn will destroy the engine.

Re: water pump replacement

I work at a Chevrolet Dealership and I would say to get the water pump replaced. It is easier to do it now. this way you will not have to make two trues and you will save a bunch on labor costs. You will not have to pay twice for the work. Just once and parts.

+1

Everything is torn down for the belt replacement, doing the WP at the same time is short money. You're actually pretty lucky the 1st pump went to 120k!

Re: water pump replacement

As said very good time to replace it.
Might be interesting to ask your parts people how many water pumps they sell for them.
Most good parts people can look that up on there computer.

Go brand new over a rebuilt water pump.
On the GM coolant I always like to service it every 3 years or 50K.
Good Luck

Re: water pump replacement

Very important to keep up with the maintenance. This motor is a zero tolerance motor. You can be ONLY be one tooth off and the motor will run rough, but any more and it will damage the motor internally.
