Question about aftemarket exhaust backpressure

I recently ordered an exhaust system for my car, and I was talking to a guy in the shop class, and he says the bigger piping affects the backpressure, which in turn heats the exhaust valves up and eventually wears them down. Does that sound about right?

Re: Question about aftemarket exhaust backpressure

no....most people are simply retarded and dont understand how cars work. Youre not going to wreck anything by putting a new exhaust on...

the most backpressure does is to affect exhaust gas reversion; however, i dont see how that is going to cause something inside the cylinder to heat up and wreck...i think you were fed a lot of what the industry calls "bullshit"

Thumbs up Re: Question about aftemarket exhaust backpressure

Yeah, I've never heard of anything like that before. It's probably something he just made up in his head and assumed it's right. It's always nice to have a second opinion about stuff. Thanks for the answer!

Cool Re: Question about aftemarket exhaust backpressure

I asked another guy in the class, and he said the same thing. Are people that retarded, or does it actually happen every once in a while? It really doesn't make sense. "In order to install an aftermarket exhaust, you have to overhaul your head first." I doubt it.

tell your friends that i have a completely bone stock 1.8L I4 making 315whp/216wtq and i have a full 3" exhaust with no cat or resonator....if they call BS, i'll get pics and the dyno sheet to prove it.

AGAIN....100% BONE STOCK

Re: Question about aftemarket exhaust backpressure

Your friends are a little correct but not exactly. They probably just heard someone else say something so now they think they are experts. Valve damage like that only happens from running open headers for extended periods. and anyone who does that has a race motor built to run like that way. so i would definately go aftermarket. an engine is like a air pump so if you put on high flow intake or exhuast it is best to do them together to get the full advantage. i also suggest adding a wrapped header with your new exhuast it will increase the scavenging effect for even more increased flow.
