Everytime I go to work on it I find another block
For those of you in Central Ohio you know that today and yesterday have been quite nice. I have already removed the head from my car and now need to pull the oil pan and push out the number1 piston.
Today I got the car jacked up and got my oil collecting pot and went under to have a look. Upon gazing at the oil pan I am horrified... I have only removed oil pans on 4G67 engines and this is much more work. On the 67 all you had to do was unbolt the pan and it popped off. From what I can see I am going to have to remove a support and drop the downpipe and who knows what else  You guys have any tips to make this easier on me? I dont have a garage and its sitting on my patio. Its still somewhat cold and damp but I need to get some more work done it soon. Its a 91 TSi AWD. If you guys have any pointers that would be super as this is my first AWD turbo car.

Yea you have to remove a few more things. Its not hard it just takes some time. As long as you can jack the front of your car up and dont mind working on your back doing the job on the patio will be fine. Good luck

 Build on hold until I get a good paying job, either in school or once I get out. At that time a full tear down and complete rebuild should be in order. The Purple People Eater will ride again... January 2011 can't come soon enough.

You also need to take the driver side axle out and transfer case too.

That sucks man... But at least it has been nice around here lately like you said. It was 61 degrees at 6am today when I left work... Sometimes Ohio still surprises the shit out of me. lol
The only tip I can give is to work fast... For all we know we could be in 10 feet of snow again by next week. lol

Sorry about the subforums thing, I didnt really know if I should put it here or not since its not really a problem disagnosis. I shall be more careful in the future.
Yeah it looks like its going to be a bitch. I have never done it before so its going to be a nice cold learning exp for me. I have my Haynes manual so hopefully I will go over all of it before I do it. Anyways thanks for the tips. BTW once the pan is off how hard is to get the connecting rod unbolted? 2 screws on the bottem of the rod all that holds each one in?
