1997 Grand Am Gt
I recently bought a 97 Grand Am Gt, I plan to put my 6*9's in it and new speakers in the front along with a Pioneer CD deck, I was wondering what potentially is the best sub/amp combo for this vehicle. I was thinking a single 10" sub with an amp, possibly a ported box. I want it to be able to pound hard and fast with the rock music I listen to, but I still want the deep bass you get with rap music. Your input is appreciated

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
Welcome to AF!!
Sounds like you already have it figured out. Your configuration should work very well. If you replace the rear speakers don't pull the grills out. You need to remove the back seat and then the rear deck cover. If you pull the grills out you will ruin them. |

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
I used to have a Grand Prix GTP, I put the six by nines in that one so I assume it should be pretty close to the same setup, although I reallly dont have the slightest idea how to install the front speakers without breaking anything....

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
Are the speakers in the doors or in the dash?

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
They are in the door panels.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
You have to pull the door panels in order to gain access to the door speakers.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
They are not hard to get to once the door panels have been removed. Make sure to use a trim tool to remove the panels otherwise you will do damage. You can purchase one at Autozone or Advance for a few dollars. Also once you get the panels off the speakers will be held in by 4 screws each.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
Are the front speakers 6.5" ??? The guy at Abc Warehouse told me they were 4*6"s. I beg to differ

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
I have a 97 GP 4 door, and the speakers in the front doors are 6 1/2 inches. You can verify this by going to cruchfield.com, their web site is usually good with the correct information of speaker sizes and location.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
doctorhrdware, I do think the 97 Grand am's are a small 4x6 as we are talking about a Grand am, not a GP.
Does say it right here at crutchfield .... http://www.crutchfield.com/S-75GZMFO...car/mycar.aspx Quote:
IMO the 6" rounds are usualy better then the odd 4x6's.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
I find it strange that the speaker covers or grills wtvr u wanna call them, are like a 6.5 in circle, but i guess i'll find out when i take the door panels off.

Re: 1997 Grand Am Gt
Yeah thats the way they just are from 1986 through the newest models.
I think its a cheap ploy to trick you into thinking you have bigger/better speakers. just my theory.Hope that helps!
