painting small parts....help?

okay....well i hope to get a few new models this weekend and start one of them over vacation...in my past models the hardest part and the reason they look crappy is because i have no clue how to paint the small parts.....what i had to do in the past is hold them by a little tiny corner or whatever and brush them, it turned out awful. I'd like to spray most of the parts this time but how to i hold them up and stuff? any help or pictures will be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance...:alien2:

I try to leave a small piece of sprue on the part to hold when painting small parts, when it comes to spraying them I prefer the airbrush as spray cans seem to waste a lot of paint when spraying small parts.
In P-Man's thread on the building on his Enzo he has some photos where you will be able to see how to hold small parts for painting, I use a similar method to him. Here is a link to the thread:

OPM,
I sharpen a toothpick and dip the tip in the paint, then apply a very small amount of paint at a time.....this method works well for me

Same goes for me.Just tip the bottle upside down (with the cap on) and use the paint on the cap.

LOL, I've been doing this forever. I thought that I was the only person in the world that uses toothpicks to paint small spots. It work very well.

There are a few ways to hold small parts when painting. I detach all parts and clean up all attachment points so I have to mount everything for paint. Sometimes there is a hole in th part you can shove a toothpick into to hold,if not drill a hole in an area that won't be seen and insert a small wire or pin to mount the part. Also you can purchase small electrical clips(aka alligator clips) and mount then on sticks and use them as parts holders. Clip onto an area that can be touched up later or doesn't show. If you want to paint both sides of a wing at the same time drill into the end of the wing and insert a wire or pin to clip onto. With weels I get a stick and a piece of tubing that fits the wheel stub and slip the tubing over the stub and onto the stick, this works good because I like to spin the wheel slowly as I paint which gives a really nice even coat of paint.

I use toothpick and for even finer details i use a pin or even a fine point marker. toothpick and pin requires patient and small amount of paint at a time. marker is just a lazy way hehehehe
