New Beetle...ready for Baja...

Built this when the kit came out-basically a modern take on the Baja Beetle w/shades of VehiCROSS. Lots of modifications to the Tamiya kit-removed roof/side glass, added Revell door panels, added Copperhead rims, raised the ride height and painted it in modern sport-ute kinda colors (again, think VehiCROSS). Fun model, gets lots of attention.

Headlights inspired from VW Dune concept and Beetle RSi.

Scale Motorsports seat decals used.

A friend turned the modern stinger-style exhaust for me on his lathe. Spoiler from AMT Dodge Stealth. Bumper guards from an old Porsche kit. Tag is our local model car club ACME...Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts.

Seen it before, but worth seeing again! :coolguy:

What paint(?) did you use for the plastic-y panels. Does it have any noteable texture?

Thanks Jay (and everyone else)-I airbrushed a mixture of Tamiya acrylics on the fenders, and there is a slight texture from using thicker paint, less air pressure and holding the airbrush further away from the surface. Wouldn't be right w/o it!

Nice.....the cutting off the roof must have taken a fair amount of time to get right

Lol hell yeah! I saw the real VW concept dune buggy at the Sydney motorshow a few years back, was that yellow one. I thought this sounded like a pretty bad sounding model(New beetle) but that thing is awesome! Love the single center pipe on the back and the ACME numberplates!
