02 Focus ZX3 - EGR Issues/Error Codes

Hi Everyone,

I really need some help on this one. I've had my 02 focus in and out of the shop (not very mechanical myself) for about 3 months now and have spent nearly $1200 dollars for an issue I'm having with my EGR valve.

A few months back I noticed a stumbling/stuttering at cruising speeds. My car threw a P0402 error code (excessive EGR FLOW). I took it to the shop where they ran a diognostic and ended up changing the spark plugs and coil packs (don't know why). I drove it home only to have the error code come back along with the same issues.

Took it back where they then changed the DPFE sensor. Drove it home - same issue this time only a P0401 error code (insufficient EGR Flow).

Most recent took it to a new shop where they finally changed the EGR valve and sensor. Drove it home - SAME ISSUE - SAME ERROR CODE !

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I'm at my wits end and am tempted to get rid of the car.
