Candy colors

I was browsing through some old pics and came upon this. Tamiya transparent colors (Clear blue, orange, red) airbrushed over a chrome sprue. Thought this might give some of you good ideas. Have yet to try it with anything gold, though, or with transparent yellow/green (colors I'm keen on getting.)

Do they sell those colors in the small containers or did you make them your self? They would look good for custom tubing: ie. air intake tubing and such.

I dont recall there being a clear green, is that just the blue and yellow mixing???

This has been a known technique for replicating anodized aluminum.

It's just Tamiya transparent colors (they're in the X-2*) range airbrushed over bright silver (chrome in this case). Here's a pic of a car done in it:

Here is list of the clear colors available from Tamiya, for those interested:
X-19 Smoke
X-23 Clear Blue
X-24 Clear Yellow
X-25 Clear Green
X-26 Clear Orange
X-27 Clear Red

I have also seen some 'candy' colors available from Testors/Boyds but I don't know how good they are.....

I have also seen Candy Colors from Testers. I have seen Candy Transparent Red. But i havnt seen those Tamiya Transparent colors yet. They look crazy. Does anybody know where to get i? Hobby i guess?:flash:

Hello everyone. This is my first post, so be nice.

I recently painted the Revell `32 Ford 3-window Coupe in Testors' Candy Apple Red. Well, first was Tamiya primer, then a coat of Duplicolor Silver I had lying around, then the Candy Apple red coat (many coats) so that the silver would shine through. The more coats you put, the deeper the red.

The color was beautiful, but the orange peel effects are pretty severe. This was only my third model, so maybe it was just my spraying technique, but the Tamiya spraypaints seem to dry a lot smoother. Either way, I got it for $3 at Wal-Mart, so I'm happy with how it turned out.

By the way, Duplicolor also has a cool high temp kit for painting valve covers. I recently did this with my Miata. You put on the primer, base coat of silver, then a coat of their clear colors (only red, gold, or blue available). It gives a very cool annodized-look, but it chips extremely easy. If you decide to do it, make sure it's the high-temp paint, otherwise you'll make a mess once your engine heats up. I'll post pictures of the valve covers or the `32 coupe if anyone is interested.

looks good but the blue needs to be darker IMHO
