They really won't make a difference. So your friends are right to a certain extent. The only way that you will see significant differences is if you do some major or minor depending on how you look at it, internal work. Boring, port and polishing, bigger intake manifolds, etc. Stuff like that. Again, headers by themselves won't produce anything significant.

The basic mods, header, intake and exhaust will make a difference. I think even with an intake and header you'll see a difference. I've heard that the G20 exhaust is pretty good stock.

Getting headers/exhaust and intake should give you a nice increase in HP though your whole rev range.

I JUST had a hotshot header put on my 1993 G20 two days ago.

You WILL feel a difference. The difference won't be as much as what a 5-speed owner will feel- but since you're use to the auto tranny, you'll feel a difference definitely.

Now I can barely press the gas and the car is more lively and eager to get going. -- It's like driving a jittery 1998+ GS300 (their gas pedals are REALLY REALLY sensitive)-- the car pulls stronger and longer from about 4,000 rpm and up, there is a cooler racing noise, not too loud- it's very subtle.

next thing on my list:

-CAI (already got the filter)
-normal tune up stuff new cap/rotor/wires/plugs
-DREAMING of a JWT s3 cam << i heard it makes a world of difference
-rims, (i have a hook up for 17'' rims)

so far on the mod list:
-car stereo
-header
-broke my sunroof << ummmmm- didn't have to pay for that mod

The key on buying aftermarket parts is to try to make them complimentery. You will see better performance if they all "work" together. Also as you add parts, you're previous upgrades may work better than before. i.e.- a header becomes more valuable once you have the cams, intake, exhaust etc. opposed to the engine being stock.

On my older auto, the first mods i did were timing, CAI, and header, in that order. I noticed a nice increase with all three of the mods. CAI and header especially. That combo right there was pretty potent. It WILL make a difference. Doesn't matter between an auto and 5-spd either.. it makes more power either way. My only suggestion, if you are going to do it, do it right, go with a hotshot header, they have proven gains over the other headers, may cost a little more, but they work. I can tell you my 3rd gen HS headers made a substantial difference in power on both my 94 auto, and 95 5-spd, both seat of the pants, and on the dyno.
