I cancelled my order because I could not fit in the car and I thought the entire inside was too small. I was also amazed at how small all the internal control knobs, read outs, etc. were in the car. Ordered a SL600 which should arrive just after the 1st of the year. |

Good luck with your new Benz. I have had 3 and recently got rid of an 04 CLK 55.
I had so many problems that I started hating the car. Seat problems. Parts on back order. Bad oil sender. Trip to the dealer on a truck.j Went to pick up at the dealer after on week for repairs and horn started honking on its own. Turn lights leaked when washed. Replaced. 5800 miles when I traded it with 15% of those miles back and forth to dealer. I had an E320 86 car and an S500 95 car. Put 100K each on these. The way MB treated me on the CLK is (&^(&*^)&)&. They lost a customer for life. I wish you the best of luck and have fun with your new car. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=323158 |

Re: 2005 DB9's on the water for United States
Thank you very much for your good wishes on my new car and for your link. I enjoyed reading it.
After I read it, I got the impression that the DB9 was almost the car you ordered by default. I agree that the Vanquish is the most gorgeous looking car in the world. I was a little dissappointed in the DB9 as it does not have any of the lines that make the Vanguish as gorgeous as it is. My problem was that the exterior of the DB9 was too plain looking for the $170,000 plus that you have to pay. Also, you already know about my thoughts about the interior. I know if you have a lemon any car can be a disaster and it certainly seems like your CLK was a disaster and a lemon. Sorry you had to go through all of that. Anyway, let me know why you finally chose the DB9. I thought for the $170,000, the outside was understated and the inside looked, well, you already know my thoughts. Here is my link on my thoughts about the DB9. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t299238.html Let me know your thoughts and I am sure you will love your car. What color combo did you get? It was fun picking from all the choices. |

I actually like the looks of the DB9 a little better than the Vanquish now that I have had a chance to spend some time with both.
The hesitation was because the car fits in between sports car and GT. This is actually what I was looking for but when I finally dove a car that fits between so well I misunderstood some of its points. It’s too small inside for a GT, a little louder that the SL, more tire noise. It rides too soft for a proper sports car yet communicates like a relatively light sports car. More lively than a GT. The problem is, I was comparing it to other cars. By its self if rides very well, is quiet at cruse, and sings when pushed. When I got a chance to drive it hard for 12 miles on a winding road the decision was made and now I understand why it feels the way it does on an easy drive. By the end of the road I felt as comfortable in it as I do in my S2000 after 40K miles on all kinds of roads. At 6 ft the car fits me very well and it also fits my wife well at 5’ 2”. The only problem is the wait. Color is Tungsten Silver with dark gray dash and carpet, moon dust seats. Standard wood with wood door option. Last edited by Sloopy; 11-29-2004 at 12:18 AM. |

I can tell you the wait is a pain. I am in the middle of it right now. I can't imagine having to wait until April. I wish you luck. |

My DB9 order that I cancelled showed up at the dealer yesterday. Going this AM to see how well I did on my color selections.
Hope this isn't going to hurt. SL600 due to arrive in 14 days. |

I wouldn't let it bother me. As you said before, they are differnt cars and once you have the SL you will probably forget all about the DB9.
What color is it? Did you sell your position or is this now dealer stock? Best of luck. |

I chose Meteorite Silver and it was absolutely gorgeous. I chose the interior of Black Cherry and it was also incredibly gorgeous. I still stand by my opinion that the SL is better for me but yesterday if the dealer had not resold the car, it would have been very hard not to pull out the checkbook. The Meteorite Silver which is a medium to darkish metallic gray looked amazing on the car and with the Black Cherry inside it was an amazing match. Not an easy time looking at that car and walking away from it. I didn't sell my position. I gave it back to the Dealer and they resold the car. Funny, the car came in with personalized door sills and my name on them. I guess they will be replacing the door sills shortly for the new buyer. Truthfully, I was surprised they hadn't already done that. Like I said, my SL needs to get here really soon. This is what I really don't understand about the DB9. 1. The controls inside are soooo small. You can hardly read them. 2. The DVD navigation unit is a real mess to work. Extremely complicated. 3. The inside is just not that big. They didn't make it as big as they could have although it is improved somewhat. 4. There are absolutely no basic functions like outside temperature read out, automatic garage door opener, no cup holders, etc. 5. The area between the two seats does not open up. There is no center console compartment. 6. I was shocked that the headliner came in wrinkled and not pulled tightly in two places. So much for quality control on a $175,000 plus car. Hey, this was something you'd have to be blind to miss. 7. The readout on the radio is also very small. 8. The front door metal grill to the speakers was hitting the front dash and it was going to be only a matter of time until something ripped. They said they could not fix this. Other than these things I can rattle off the top of my head, I repeat. The Meteorite Silver was absolutely gorgeous. It was the perfect fit because there is a dark grayish color in the headlamps and it matched the Meteorite silver perfectly. I saw a green car that had headlamps with the gray color in them. Didn't understand that. It looked terrible but with the Meteorite Silver, it matched perfectly. Where oh where are you my little SL. I need you badly NOW! If only they had lifted the DVD navigation from Volvo it would have been a lot better. Volvo has the best system I have ever seen.

I looked at a jade green color today and it was absolutely gorgeous.
Went over the car very closely and couldn’t find a thing wrong. I had seen the headliner issue you are mentioning on the car I test drove, but this one was perfect. You of course know the quality of the finish. One thing, the salesman stated that the redelivery check took 14 hours, but he also stated that they always take longer until they learn the car. They did the first check on the dealer’s car followed immediately by a customer’s car. Salesman was scrabbling when I got there because when he went to fill it up with gas the tire pressure warning light came on. He was supposed to deliver car today and it was back in the shop. Even though I agree with some of the things you are mentioning, comparing to other cars out there, this looks like very good value. The dealer where I ordered mine is very attentive to having everything perfect and making sure the customer is happy with their decision. I see you are getting your SL in the bay area? Which dealer did you use to order your DB9? |

I think if I had to drive one car, one time, it would have been the DB9. I think, for everyday, the SL is way more comfortable and has many more features. Even though the DB9 had problems, there was no question the Dealer would have done whatever it took to make the customer happy. I have a tremendous relationship with my Mercedes dealer but it is obvious to me that the Aston Martin service is just one step above. They will do anything for you. There is no question, this DB9 is a sexy car and while it is missing a lot of things, its WOW factor is incredible. Wonder what happens over time. I am betting you want the features and the room. Hope I am right. I think you made a great choice on your DB9. Like I said, I need for my SL600 to get itself here cause I am feelin it. Got the car from Mercedes Benz of Pleasanton. Fantastic dealer and willing to do anything to make you happy. I'd say a way above average Dealer. I have only one mechanic that I use who is fantastic. Are you final on your colors? |
