Turbo/supercharged Dragcar, opinions needed!!
Well, thanks to Antonio I just got a 1978 Chevy El Camino 3n1, (I'll get the beer tomorrow
)I was thinking about making it into a 454 Chevy big block supercharged, turbocharged beast of a drag car. Do any of you think that would be a good project? I have some prostock dragcar tubs to put in the tray so don't worry, I will have some big meats out back. Opinions? Should I do this idea or just do it as a Streetmachine(just with a stock 454...You could say as an SS version or just as a Lowrider? |

I'd say Supercharge it AND turbo is, hell, it's a V8, TWIN turbo it. lol I gotta go with the race version. It's too easy and too common to build lowrider imports.

With an engine that size
......blown,slammed,twin nitrous tanks, roll cage, wheelee bars to at least try to keep the front on the ground, supertrapp exhaust behind the doors, hard bed cover with built in prostock wing........you know the sandard.

This sounds identical to my 78 El Camino dragster that I am working on. I used a blown 454 out of Revell's 3in1 Chevelle kit. I built a custom frame from the bed back, gutted the interior and engine bay. huge slicks in the rear, working on the rear frame (it is a bit weak) fuel cell, nitrious tanks and the interior. I took some pics the other day but I gotta resize them so I need a good photo editor. I will post picks as soon as possible

Tubs it is, Supercharger it is aswell, I also have a prostock supercharger
. Rollcage should be easy but I've never had to build mine so far. Wheels will have to be Cragar Dragways, because they are the only wheels I have that are deep enough to fit the rear meats. So only one person has said something about the turbo? Use it or not?? . I have some wheelie bars but they are a bit..used, I may be able to salvage them. I also only have hillborn style air scoops so I might just leave it off as I can't find any Bug catcher style ones. I also only have 1 nitro tank, well its a fire extinguiser, but it will do. No rear prostock spoiler I gave that to my friend along time ago, maybe i'll get it back for a GT wing..:o also have no supertrapp exhausts.Colour is undecided, I think the same blue as my Cobra would look cool, or yet another metallic black paint job? Oh yeah by the way, I finished my 1994 Impala Lowrider a couple of days ago so I will get some pics eventually. I need a good digital camera.....How much beer do you need Antonio? |

I don't think you can install turbos with a supercharger.Besides,a nitrous fed supercharged 454 big block in an Elky is plenty power. As for the intake, how about some velocity stacks? If you can get the '55 chevy stepside p/u it has a nice pair of supertrapps.Man,now you got me wanting to prostreet my '69 GTO Judge.:coolguy:

Here is my theory of using turbo chargers and superchargers together. You have the blower/Supercharger mounted on the intake manifold. then on top of the supercharger is the spot for the carb. Then on the carb spot goes the turbo and then you attach the an air filter or carb. Lowriders4Life, you say you have the 3in1 El camino, you should know what I mean by the way the turbo and carb are setup on the kit engine. This has got me thinking now. Are you gonna use your kit turbo? can I have it?

Yeah I will be using my kits turbo, as I got no others. Turbos and superchargers do work together I have seen a twin turbo supercharged Holden HQ ute.

Looks phat Bong Monkey! My tires aren't that big but my tubs are bigger then those tires
What engine is it again?I will see what I can do about the beers antonio, its christmas in 2 days so the beers dissapear very quickly!! I've ran into a point in this drag job, I dont know which would look better with the huge tubs...The Elcamino or a FC RX7 that I have (Thinking of making it into the Dyson Rotaries dragcar) The FC has no suspension AT ALL so if I dont put some custom drag stuff in it I loose a model, but I really want to do this Elcamino because I love trucks with phat tubs in the tray . The wires and spinners, Hydros & batteries will get chucked into....a 59 Cadillac Eldorado coupe!! (AF REALLY needs a drooling smilie!!!!!)I am sure that when I finish my custom Lowrider Caddy Eldorado you will all be amazed ........
