Post Primeraweb moving to a new owner...

Hi all,

Just to let you know that Primeraweb is going to be taken over by Neil (Neil82 on the forum) in the near future due to the fact that my Primera will soon be looking for a new home.

I am going to be placing an order for a VW Golf GT-TDi shortly, and this will obviously mean that I'll be selling the Primera, and I think that Primeraweb should be run by someone with an active passion for the Primera.

I will still be around and take great interest in both Primeraweb and the AF G20 forum, just I feel that the site would be better run by someone who is an active in the Primera community.

I'm sure that Neil will use both his web knowledge and his Primera passion to build on the existing base that I have created this year. Of course, the site would never have got off the ground without the great support that I have had from yourselves here at AF, and all the other visitors to the site.

Please support Neil by visiting Primeraweb , and help it continue to grow and prosper.

Regards - Anthony.

PS. If any of you are interested in buying my Primera, then please feel free to email me. There will be more details regarding the sale of my Primera in the "classified" section of the AF G20 forum

Why on earth are you buying a VW GOLF? Golf is the most boring car to drive, no handling what so ever! I`ve tried several and all of them has so poor handling. And besides, A VW? VW has a extremely bad build quality these days, all test shows that VW, Opel (Vauxhall), Ford and AUDI is the poorest cars when it comes to reliability. Special the TDi engines that VAG make, these are very troublesome. Here in Norway they are most likely to banned, because of the problems in cold weather. Every winter I see a bunch of Golf TDi standing in the roadside, waiting for help. While my Primera just drives on. I and my family has driven Nissans for more 1`000`000 km, and never had a breakdown. But a friend of mine that has a 99 Golf TDi, has driven about 20`000km and the car has been repaired 3 times allready. All I say is, why switch to a car that isn`t a 1billion`th build quality of Japanese one? I`ve seen so many that have done the extact same thing that you are doing, and regret afterwards. Most of them has gotten their brains back and gotten a Japanese again, while some stubborn enough has payed themselves poor in repair cost on a German "prestige" car. I just pray for you that It doesn`t get too cold where you live, because if: You should prepare to take som long walks. German cars should be banned! Well I wish you good luck, you and your VW are gonna need it!

Yes, I am buying a Golf. A Golf diesel at that

However, I suggest that you go and actually take a test drive in a new Golf GT-TDi 130 before making judgements about it. Diesel power has certainly come a long way in recent years, to the point now were I like the TDi 130 engine more than the 1.8T engine found in the petrol GTi.

The sheer amount of torque available is mind blowing. Just keep the revs above about 1700rpm, put your foot down, and it will throw you back in your seat. Any gear, even up an incline.

130bhp and 228lb/ft torque as standard, and 162bhp and 297lb/ft torque is only a mere chip away. All this, and still getting in excess of 50mpg

The handling in standard form is a little too soft for a GTi class car, but the optional "sport pack" (lowered stiffer suspension) sorts that out.

As for reliability compared to a Primera. Well, yes Japanese cars are generally very reliable, I don't doubt that for a second. However, German cars certainly aren't bad (although probably not quite upto Japanese standards) - if you want poor reliability then you buy a Vauxhall (Opel) or get an Italian number.

Certainly people I know with VW's have had very few problems with them, and it doesn't get cold enough where I live to really give any car problems. Probably no lower than -10 degrees in Winter, and normally no worse than -3 degrees.

Maybe I will regret selling my Primera, maybe I won't. Either way, the time has come for it to be sold and replaced with something newer, and the Golf GT-TDi is the car I've test driven and enjoyed every minute of it.

For a second opinion, ask Neil - he has driven his dads Golf GT-TDi 115 and was impressed with it.

Golf TDi 130 hp - 0-60 in 8.5 secs, 0-100 in 25 secs, 30-70 in 7.8, 127 mph.

My dad has the 115 hp version and when I have the choice I drive it instead of the Primera (one cause its a great car and two it gets 50 mpg and I dont have to pay for the deisel), its faster than my car in every way apart from 0-60 (even then it would be close). But the 130 hp is faster in EVERY way than my Primera.

And who said it has crap build quality, now that is just laughable!

Neil
