280zx turbo bites the dust :(

Hey all,

The other day as I was driving to my friends house, my rear drivers side wheel ripped off...

I guess two nuts fell off, and then the two bolts that still had nuts on them ripped out...

It was like this...

I'm driving along, goin 50-55 in a 55 mph 2 lane hwy (lots of traffic), suddenly I hear this noise... its like clunkclunkclunk... then it goes CLUNKCLUNKCLUNKCRUNCH!

My rear drivers side hops into the air a bit (bounced off the tire I guess?), then slams onto the ground, sparks fly out the back of the car and I grind to a stop on the side of the road.

Some spanish guy stopped and drove me to my friends house, I came back with my friend and there was a cop there, apparently my tire hit some guys F150, broke his bumper, flattened his front passenger tire, and maybe messed his alignment...

Shitty, shitty, shitty eh?

Now im looking for another car while I'm driving my grandma's POS Tercel... I'm looking for something good on gas and slow... fast cars break too much...

I'm thinking of a CRX or 4G Honda Hatch, I don't like Hondas too much, but they are good for crusing slow and looking decent... Know any for sale for around 1000-1500?

So how bad is the damage? It shouldn't be that hard to fix, unless you hooped the frame...

Z's are like 924s, parts are cheap and easy to come by, if you know where to look.

I'd be more worried about the frame... however, this would be a perfect opportunity to get an older 240Z in ratty condition and swap everything between them

Hmm, its not too bad, but I just don't want the car anymore... its just broken part after broken part...

The fender is dented pretty bad, also seems like it got pulled back a bit (gap between fender and door is wider, and its harder to open/close the door...) also needs a brake rotor, the one thats on there isnt a circle anymore, its a circle with a flat side

Economy and reliability are what I want now, I just can't afford a fast car right now... fast cars break... Once I get out of college, I'll go looking for a fast car again...

Well, my advice is pull the drivetrain, and any other parts that might be usefull out, and hang onto them... You might end up wanting them later for another project, and you'll even make more money if you end up selling them in pieces.

In the meantime, get a reliable car that's cheap to run... a 924!

Hmm, I'm posting ads on zcar.com and zdriver.com right now, seeing what kinda offers people will make on the car... its not like its totaled or anything, I just dont want to fix it...

If I don't get any offers around 1000-1500, then I'll part it out...

1000-1500 sounds kinda high, but I have been replacing a lot of stuff on the engine, and it runs really good... just doesn't roll so good now

i'd suggest getting a 240 sx or something.....probably pick on up somewhere for a reasonable price...or maybe an older Talon....

^^^Exactly

Get an older hatch. They are slow, but still very fun.

Thats what I was trying to save for... an 89-94 240sx (coupe or hatch)

Seems like they are more expensive than a Civic Hatch or CRX tho...

Because he's in California

Yeah, a 240SX would be a great choice. Just make sure that you get the hatch, it has better weight distribution.
