1987 jeep cherokee laredo

i was driving down outta the hills and jeep just turned off and had a back fire. i towed it home and now when i try and start it there is nothing, its completly dead. the battery is good and so is the alternator. all the fuses are good the only thing that works is the head light. no wipers, no heater, no blinkers, nothing. i replaced the starter relay cuz thats what i was told it was but still no luck.. any ideas????

Re: 1987 jeep cherokee laredo

Either....
Ignition Module/Coil..Should be a 2 pc setup..coil should set in the module.......module should be attached to the inner fender on the passenger side..0ne or both can cause what your stating...Older modules were kinda "open on the bottom..Newer ones have a gel like thing to keep moisture away from the inside...
Ignition Switch..NOT the keyed Cylinder...Ignition Switch is located on top of the steering column..behind the instrument cluster...If it is the ignition module..the best way to RnR is remove the lower half of the dash..then drop the steering column...
