fuel pump

ok i was wondering.. i picked up a 92 eagle talon tsi awd.. and it is pretty much stock except for a full exhaust, intake, boost controller, and a new head.. i was wondering if i could safely run 20-22psi of boost with the stock fuel pump or if i need an aftermarket one.. and if there is anything else i would need to safely run 22psi let me know.. im planning on getting a FMIC and a header so any info would help cause im new to dsm's, i had a camaro.. so im alittle lost with boost haha thnx

Re: fuel pump

Yes, and no.. Your stock wired FP will most likely not keep up with the demands of your ECU's fuel tables, and you most certanly will experience fuel cut (air-cut) once your ecu see's 2.55g/rev. It's been a couple years sence i've had any experice with a 14b. I can't remember at what airflow I started seeing my stock 2g pump run out of steam, or exactly where I peaked 2.55g/rev and at what psi.

Invest in a pocketlogger or Dsmlink if you plan on being serious about tuning or fuel managment.

Re: fuel pump

Why are you so set on 22 psi? You might want to do some research before cranking the boost like that or I guarantee you will fuck some shit up.

Re: fuel pump

How do you know there are no problems? Do you have a datalogger to prove it? You won't really feel anything going wrong. But I assure you that 18 is too high on a stock pump especially if it isn't rewired. I wouldn't run over 16 even with a 190.

Re: fuel pump

IIRC, the 2g pump rewired is barely enough to cover a 14b at full steam. A 1g pump certainly won't cut it. Most poeple can get away with the stock regulator on a walbro 190 pump however, and they're less than 100 bucks. With a pump and a logger and an FMIC I'd run 22 psi all day on that POS, FWIW.
