Engine Blew

Well I havent been on here lately mainly because I have been racing, working full time, school and a girl. But yesterday I was driving normally and my engine blew. I can stick my hand in the hole of the oil pan and touch the inside internals. I guess it was dinally time for the engine to go. At 13X.XXX miles not so sure. I dont think it crankwalked like my last GSX but oh well. Now ideas of what to build. Car is at home and tomorrow I am taking the engine out. Junkyard has a 4G63t engine and they want $180 for it. But I want a already rebuild engine with forged internals for higher boost. I may get just the 6bolt block and buy pistons and rods and other stuff seperatly. I also wanna get a ACT2900 clutch. Any one know a site. Thx and wish me luck.

what do you think about this one. I am thinking of buying it

Re: Engine Blew

I personaly would never put a used engine dirrectly into a car without having it hot-tanked, crack tested, and all the clearences/spec's checked. That goes for both the block & head..

Why Scott? I've done it a few times on a couple different cars and have had not one single problem yet.

Re: Engine Blew

Most shit in the junk yard is there for a reason. I would atleast have 'er checked over before dropping in. I would never just drop in a junk yard block, that shit would get rebuilt before it goes in my car. Also, I would probably have a head pressure tested before I used it.

Anything I grab from a junkyard gets meticulously(sp) looked over and tested before it goes on my car. I'm overly paranoid.

Re: Engine Blew

Well I don't just drop them in and go. I give them a very good look over and measure what I can, but I don't tear apart the block and have it hot tanked and shit, that's just too much, might as well re-build the one that blew up then. And we have a very reputable yard around here that my dad knows one of the guys really well, that's where we get most of the stuff, and it all comes with a 90 day warranty.

I bought a 1997 Talon yesterday for my son as a project car, he just turned 16 years old. It will be his car after doing the work on it. Anyways, the garage I bought it from says that the timing belt broke and bent the valves. It has 144,000 miles on it.

My question, would it be more cost effective to rebuild this motor/head or buy one from a salavge yard for $1000.00 who claims it has 50K on it?

This car came from the original owner and was used buy his wife and 3 daughters .... claims it had it's oil changes from day one off the show floor.

Any words of advice here ... just for the record it cost me $500.00. I do not want to put too much more than $2000.00 into it. A refreshed Stock motor would be just fine.

Thanks
