93 Chevy Truck---is it the knock sensor???
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could give me a little advice. I bought a 93 Chevy truck with 150.000 miles on it as a beater truck. I have put 4,000 miles on it since I got it. Now that is has gotten cold I am starting to use it for the 4X4. Earlier this fall when it started getting cold out I had the check engine light come on for around 2 minutes then go off. It smelled like my truck was running rich at the time. Since then my truck has had the light come on two more times then go off. I didn't bother testing the code because it smelled like it was running rich. Before winter set in I changed the battery which cleared any codes I had. About 2 days ago I starting to get a knocking coming from the engine. It only happened when the car accelerated from 45 to 50 mph then seemed to go away. I didn't have any knocking at idle. Since then my truck has gone down hill and the knocking has increased. I don't get the knock at idle, but the truck idles rough. I am also starting to hear the knocking at lower speeds. If I switch from OD to drive it goes away. These symptoms are getting me think it is a fuel problem causing the knocking from a bad knock senor. I am also seeing a drop in gas mileage. Would anyone have any advice on things to check. Could it be the rods or the lifters getting stick? Is it a crack in the head gasket? Is it the timing that it off? The spark plugs look fine.
Thanks to anyone that replies in advance.
