Hi my first question here. I am trying to bring a Blazer 96 lt back up to snuff. The rear tires seem to bounce in reverse, esp. up hill. The shocks are replaced. I am thinking it may be the leaf-springs, As the diff checks out. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was your solution. great site.

Re: Vibrations in reverse
Yes going forward is no problem. but in reverse well...when you step on the gas there is a vibration, and noise coming from the back of the truck. It is like there is no traction to the tires. It does start to move but the reversing needs to be done with smooth acceleration or the noise and vibrations start again.

Re: Vibrations in reverse
some more info on the problem. It is less on flat ground but any king of slope it happens. More slope/more vibration.

Re: Vibrations in reverse
If all forward gears are good and no codes.
You are looking at internal damage. Check fluid level and fluid condition and make sure the transmission fillter is not stopped up. If a 4W drive does it feel like anything is binding up or locking up? If it just slips or jerks AND FLUID LEVEL AND FILTER IS GOOD IT IS INTERNAL Damage. How many miles and has the transmission ever been serviced? A look in the bottom of transmission oil pan may point to the problem. Look for a bunch of metal shavings or clutch plate material. MT

Re: Vibrations in reverse
Thanks for your rapid response. It is four wheel drive. I have just bought the truck. and I plan to have the motor/trans rebuilt in 2008, it has 205000 miles. But stll is a solid truck with no rust. good interior ect. I will have a trnny sevice done on it this week and let you know. Is it true that flushing an older trans may bring up other problems?
