Viper ACR Pulls A 7.22 At The Ring.
The new 2009 Viper ACR pulled a 7.22 at the Nürburgring recently. This beats out the new GTR and the ZR1. I'd say it's impressive being it's just and engine and gearbox with four wheels and a body. No AWD, no yaw sensors, no ACD, no traction control, no electronic nannys and it still takes the record.
I'll bet if they raised the limiter another 200-300 RPM they could keep from bouncing off it so much. It would also help if he didn't miss that shift. Between those tow things I'll bet they could shave off another five tenths. Video Aticle |

That is a pretty brilliant time actually not suprised all that much about it not having all the technical Bs making it faster but thats life.

Very good driver to do that with no AWD or electronic helpers.
That shift knob jiggling around that much freaks me out a bit though.... its creepy.

Nice, I love the Vipers. As nice as Vettes are I would love to see a Viper take down a Vette anyday. I'm a sucker for mopars.

I like them more than vettes. Vettes are almost overplayed now, where as when you see a Viper its like.. holy fuck a viper.
Vette? damn, nice vette. Thats it. Gotta pull for the 2 extra cylinders, anyways

Impressive...
I can see that this will be a never ending battle. Once one brakes it then they will all be out there again. it seams that they are hitting the rev limiter far too much. They need to open that thing up a little more. But what do I know. The said they wanted to shorten the gearing in the article.

The guy who drove the Vette said he can get a second or two more off the time... This is rediculous. And by that, I mean amazingly awesome.

Re: Viper ACR Pulls A 7.22 At The Ring.
the vid looks like during most of the track he only went to 4th gear. if they changed the gearing a lil, then 5th woulda been used, possibly making the lap a lil quicker, and a lot less time on the rev limiter

Re: Viper ACR Pulls A 7.22 At The Ring.
Actually, may need to send another couple orders to GM for the ZR1.
I was lurking around some GM forums and all their fan boys are calling foul on the ACR because they claim it's, "not a stock Viper." I guess the ACR SRT-4 isn't stock either. : And in a couple posts people were explaining how bad of a DD the ACR Viper would make as oppose to.....? What the ZR1 or Z06...yeah....those are a treat to cruise in I am sure. I've been in a regular Vette before and it in no way yelled comfort. And back to a DD, I am sure the front splitter on the ZR1 would do fantastic over speed bumps and steeper drive-ins. I will say, the ACR is a mean looking machine:

Re: Viper ACR Pulls A 7.22 At The Ring.
Well and that is exactly it. These high-end track cars that are street legal aren't comfortable to ride in. My VR4 is actually very comfortable to ride in if the suspension isn't in sport mode. On the down side it does weigh like 3700lbs. I have ridden in modded 3/S with thin tires, racing suspension, weight reduction and power mods and while they would kick the living shit out of my car in a straight line and most certainly in a corner but they were absolutely brutal to ride in. I know one of the guys bought his that way and drove it back 900 miles and after he got back, he didn't even want to touch the car for a little while.
On the bright side, it about makes you sick to go for a spirited ride in his car lol.
