scracthbuilding tubro chargers

Hello everbody,
I am new to the board. I, like many others, am building an Acura Integra. I am using the Revell-Monogram kit. I have started and nearly completed the body kit that I am make, it isn't anything fancy. Now, I am also trying to make a turbo for the car but have had absolutely no sucess. So my question to you fellow modelers and board members is, how do I scratch build a turbo? Has anyone done this? Do you know of any websites with How-to's? Any progression pictures of a turbo build up? Is there any kits that have turbos? If I can get my hands on a digital camera I will try posting some pictures

Go find a really really really small snail, and take its shell. Paint that and vavoom you've got yourself a turbo with a very natural look.

Sorry, maybe its the fumes. I just got done cleaning paint off a model soaking in csc.

yes... it will work, and it may turn out as nice as this one....

Bong_the_Monkey.....
i recommend reading through the entire post to get the idea of what he is doing... as long as you get the right materials, and have patience... you should be able to pull it off. plus, you can look at this model and try to match some of the dimensions if you are unsure of how to make everything look.

mp3z24, thanks for that link. It is a great build of a turbo. I bookmarked it so I can read it off-line later. I hope mine is that good, hell I would settle for something half that good.

I posted the same question on www.briansmodelcars.com and someone suggested that I might find a turbo and intercooler in a Porsche 911 kit. Has anyone build this kit? Does it have a turbo and intercooler? Will it work with the Integra ITR? Also someone suggested a tubro from a 206 rally car and an intercooler from skyline but Tamyia kits are a little expensive when I am going to be parting the kit out. Anyone know of anyother kits? What about the Buick Grand National? I saw that somebody on here did one. What is the turbo like in it?

Fujimi Enthusiast series 911 Turbo does have a separate turbo charger assembly, which actually looks like a turbo charger.

You can take a close look at IHI turbo.
http://images.google.com/images?q=ih...&ie=ISO-8859-1

Turbo can be made mainly from three components, inlet trumpet, compressor chamber, turbine axis and exhaust housing.
The trumpet can be made from evergreen plastic pipe, and just sand the outside to taper it.
Compressor chamber can be made by heating plastic rod and curl it to the shape.
Turbine axis can simply be a short cylinder.
Exhaust housing can be made by cutting out a circle from a sheet of plastic, and stack several of them. Then add the manifold mounts, also made of a piece of plastic.

uhhh......i also saw that and was very impressed......but i'm pretty sure he didn't steal a small snail's shell to make the turbo housing.....i wasn't saying making a 1/24 scaled turbo was funny......read TheSyndicate's post closely....... back to you!!!......haha

Check out the barbie doll section at your local walmart. Chances are, there's probably an accessory kit that comes with a blow dryer. Take that and use it. TRY NOT to get caught in the barbie doll section though! But if someone sees you, just pretend you're looking for a birthday present for your daughter or little sister (that's what I did when I was looking for something for my G.I. JOE/Gundam base when I was 9).

Cool

This thread reminds me of this guy who went to my school, back when I was about 11 or 12. He was some rich dude's son and drove a very modified beetle to school.

It was a cabriolet, had a bright blue paint job, big and fat tyres, square headlights, fog lamps, a huge rear wing, etc etc etc.

I also spotted an air intake (like the 911 turbo) so my friend and I speculated that he bolted a turbo onto the engine. I don't know how fast/powerful or even if it's possible, but if the beetle's engine is similar to the early 911's, it should be feasible.

It will make a cool project - if I can find a cheap beetle model to cut apart.

U could use the Alternater, which comes with the kit. That's what I did with my integra.
