1999 Toyota Corolla VE

hey guys. i just bought a 1999 Corolla VE for about $2800. the car has some scratches on it, but that doesn't concern me. The main reason why i bought this car was because my 2002 bravada gets horrible gas mileage. It has about 107,000 miles on it, and it runs great. Just have a couple questions about it. Do they last? I'm the type of guy that takes care of his car well. Always keep them maintained, clean, the works. As a result, my bravada now has +127k miles one it. I try to do most of the repairs my self (spark plugs, air and fuel filters, etc). So would this vehicle be a nice gas-saver for me? How many MPG's do they get? what are the pros and cons of corollas? And also, the windsheild has a hairline crack on it that isn't visible, but goes across the whole thing. I am planning to get that fixed later on, but how long do you guys think i can drive around with it, regardless of a ticket? Any infor would help, thanks!!!

Re: 1999 Toyota Corolla VE

I'd say for $2800 you found a bargain, but then my spidey senses start to say "$2800? What's wrong with it?" If the car starts, runs smooth and straight, with no smoke, good a/c, and no transmission issues like shuddering, slippage, or burned smell, then I'd say off hand you're golden. It's for commuting, so body and interior flaws are secondary, right?

Just make sure the maintenance schedule has been adhered to, especially for timing belt & spark plug changes, and regular fluid changes. Otherwise, they're pretty bomb-proof. Good luck!
