94 grand cherokee fuel pump replacement
i have a 94 jeep gc limited 5.2l v8. i am replacing the fuel pump and wanted to know whats the best way to get to it. i know its in the tank, but i was looking at autozones repair guides and thiers a pic of the pump being on the side of the tank, or maybe rear or tank against rear bumper, but i think the pic is for 4.0l motors but mine is 5.2l i wanted to know exactly where its at and how to gain access. do i need 2 drop the tank completely? or part way? i dont wana drop it if not nessesary bc i have about 7 gallons of fuel in it and cant siphone due to 2nd catch in the fuel filler. any help with be appreciated. Iv only started to undo the tank holder bolts. i didnt notice anywhere on the side for the pump access to be, but yet i didnt look very good, (it was dark) plus it says that the 99 and above models have it on top so you need to drop the tank completely. also if any1 could let me know the best way to drop the tank if nessesary, i have a jack and stands but since i have to undo the holder bolts its right above me. please help... thanx

Re: 94 grand cherokee fuel pump replacement
This is only my opinion. Regardless of where the pump would be located at I would still drop tank and flush it making sure no dirt and other junk is in it(people can and do get a lot of junk/water from gas when refueling). Be hell to replace a pump just to have it get all clogged up or something happen to it cause you wanted to take the easy path. I have done this on older vehicles that have mechanical fuel pumps on the engines, every time I replace a pump I usually flushed the tank, unnecessary to do it sometimes but never hurts either.

Re: 94 grand cherokee fuel pump replacement
you have to drop the tank....disconnect the fuel filler lines from the tank and empty it..(you can syphon it out with a marine fuel hose and squeeze ball...walmart carries them pretty cheap)...the pump is located on the top of the tank, you will need to clean all the dirt away 1st..then unscrew the big ring to get the pump out.
