Rules of thumb to lightening up your car
Hey guys- as most drag racers do im trying to find out the rules of thumb to lightening up my 69 nova - what are the most practical and easiest things i can remove or replace on this thing to shed some pounds?

Do you drive by yourself or do you ferry passengers? If you are the only one who uses your car (by that I mean you have no passengers), you can remove all seats but the driver seat. If you don't have buckets in that, you can put in a bucket for the driver side. Remove all carpeting and noise insulation (and bring earplugs as it gets loud). Keep the trunk empty, remove the spare when you race. Remove all non-critical components from the poowertrain - if you have A/C, remove all of that. You basically need only your alternator on the engine, power steering is a nice thing but not necessary (if you have access to a proper manual steering gear). If you want to get extreme, you can remove sheet metal where it's redundant (i.e. double-wall panels, etc). Remove the windows from the doors.

dont forget fiberglass hoods, trunk lids, fenders, ect.
also, lightweight driveshafts, and wheels will have a big impact. |
