Doorlock light's

Can anyone tell me if it's right that the interiorlight's and the light's in the doorlock go on when you touch the door handle, even when the car is locked?

Re: Doorlock light's

After awhile, the switch contacts, which are part of the door latch, get gunked up and can usually be restored by spraying WD40 up into the assembly. Just make sure you use a rag under it to catch any excess WD40 that may run down. I had similar problems on our '99 SEL when we got it used, a few weeks back. The treatment fixed it and I've had no further trouble. Do it on all the doors for good preventive measure.

Re: Doorlock light's

Hold on, are you asking if it's normal that when you pull the door handle from the outside, the interior lights come on? In my experience ('95), the answer is yes, and they go off after 30 secs or a minute. I assume that's what they are supposed to do!

I think that may be different from the common problem phil is referring to, where the "door ajar" light and dome light come on and off for no reason.

Re: Doorlock light's

He mentioned the door as being locked, which would mean that the switch would not normally be able to actuate. In his case, the situation with the latch switches has most likely gotten close to the point where he would get the lights on all the time symptom, with the door ajar message.
