i have a 2004 grand caravan my brake lights stay on after i hit the brake or lock the doors with the keyless entry. the brake lights will stay on after the truck is turned off untill the light timer turns them off. but i can also get the brake lights to turn off while driving it by turning the 4 ways on and off. i have checked all the fuses in the fuse pannel. could not find any kind of relay in the fuse pannel for the lights. i have changed the brake light switch and still has not changed anything. i have also pulled out the brake light fuse and disconnected the park brake switch and the lights will not go out untill either the timer turns them off or i turn the 4 ways on and turn them off

Re: 2004 grand caravan brake lights stay on
Sounds like a pinched wire harness somewhere, you could start at the back and trace the brake wires to the front.
Could be a problem with the computer too. The one that controls the security/keyless etc.. Let me just say from learning the hard way, due to the complexity of the wiring in these vans you might want to consider taking it to the dealer. |

Re: 2004 grand caravan brake lights stay on
Maybe call the dealer first and see if it is going to be a cheap fix first, if it's not then maybe try tracing. 01 to 03 had 2 bulbs per side, one for the brake and one for the turn, the brakes lights/wires were seperate from the rest. On the 04 and up the one bulb shares with the brakes, turning, security, etc., so it makes it that much more difficult to locate your problem. I wish I could help you more.

Re: 2004 grand caravan brake lights stay on
Might be worth a shot. Try pulling the IOD fuse if your 04 has it. This will reset the BCM and possibly the forward controller. Disconnecting the battery accomplishes the same thing.

well let u know i did find out what the problem was and your post did help. when u said that all the brake lights run off the same circuit on the 04 and newer. i remember that the upper middle light bulb was blown. i really didn't think anything about it untill u said something so i went and got a $2 bulb installed it and now the brake lights work fine. so thanks all and i hope this helps someone else
