my new car is jacked up
i just baught a 95 eclipse non turbo automatic. The transmission is acting funny. While driving the transmission will stay in a gear and stay at high rpms for a while before shifting into the next. Then when I stop the car acts like it still wants to go (stays at 1800 or so rpms instead of 800 where it is supposed to idle. Whats going on?

Re: my new car is jacked up
Doesn't make it the trans guy , could be a fuel / emission issue. My TPS went out a while back and the RPMS were up around 1400 in nuetral :/ do you have a CEL light on ? is there smoke or liquids coming the the exhaust pipe ?
The only way a auto will stay in gear at high rpms is if it's continually being feed power up around the 5500 - 6000 rpm range then force shift into the next gear. How many miles on the car ? does it look abused ? do a carfax and see the service records.

Re: my new car is jacked up
The transmission not shifting is a different problem than your high idle in gear I think. When was the last time you changed the tranny oil and filter? That should help with the odd shifting. Do you have any CEL's like Mazda said?
