sound coming from the front end

I have replaced both hubs which includes the bearing on my '98 4x4 blazer. I just recently had a tire rotation done on my car and everything seemed fine for a while. Now i am getting some whining noise coming from the front right side of the car, almost like a bearing noise again. however this time if i jerk the car back and forth, there is no audible change to the sound, which leads me to believe it is not the bearing. Also, the noise seems to come and go - more prevalent in the cold. again this morning after i took the tire off and put it back on the sound no longer exists. Does anyone have any ideas where this sound may be coming from? It is definitely rotational. As i go faster the sound gets much higher pitched and lower at slow speeds.

Re: sound coming from the front end

Check the brake pad warning tabs, they may be contacting the rotor. There is one tab on each pad.

Re: sound coming from the front end

I have a 94, but what your describing almost exactly describes the problem I am having. I have found that the piece that connects your alternator to your serpentine belt can make that noise. I dont know if its rust or what, and I know idea how do fix it. (My alternator is only a year old, practically new)
Could also be your power steering motor. Mine is also making a noise that describes your conditions (My truck isnt the quietest of beasts ) My ps motor is going bad i just havent had the money yet to replace it.

Thumbs up Re: sound coming from the front end

is there any play on the steering wheel ?, if there is (mine has 4 inches) replace worn ball joints.Because of worn joints which is common, wheels will not be straight and will be fighting each other. My wheels do this, it's bad.

Re: sound coming from the front end

I just had the selector fork replaced in my front differential and it got rid of the noise I had. The funny thing was it would whine for the first 15 minutes of driving and go away. Now that it's been replaced no more whine. It was a sound that came from the passenger side. Something to look into if you've had 4x4 problems.
