Hard Starting '90 Mustang LX-5.0L

My '90 Mustang has been having a hard time starting of late. The engine will crank several times before turning over; sometimes I turn the ignition key and hold for a couple of seconds, then try it again - the engine usually turns over at this point.

I thought maybe it's a fuel filter issue, but someone suggested that the fuel line is draining back into the tank due to a failing check valve.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

If there is an extended time of cranking then it could be related to fuel pump performance or pressure. I'd check the fuel pump relay, fuses, and any pressure valves there of. A bad relay can cause extended starting delays. I've also heard of valves on the tank that can cause this also.

Thanks. How do I check this fuel pump relay? Where is it located?
