grind with fast shift in only 2nd gear??!!

okay, i just bought a 1992 eagle talon non turboed. but with the 2.0 in it. anyways when the guy test drove it for me, he would fast shift it and going from 1st to 2nd with fast shifting, it would grind for a second. anyways, the thing is that it will not grind with fast shifting on any of the other gears. whats up with that? and will a clogged up fuel filter keep my car from cranking and producing enough juice to spark the sparkplugs? it misses alot so i need to get wires and spark plugs but was wondering if my engine was getting starved. anyways, i appreciate any input.

no enough "juice" to spark has nothing to do with a fuel filter, its the battery... if the battery is new, then it is not getting a full charge from the alt... one of which (possibly both) need to be replaced...

Grinding is going to be from bad synchros (on second gear in your case, each gear has its own synchros). Continuing to shift fast will continue to wear it out. The usual fix is to send the tranny to ShepTrans for a rebuild.
