04 CRV engine cuts out
My CRV engine will cut out momentarily and then start back up. It happens at all speeds but if I'm stopped the engine will stall and the dash lights come on - it will start back up normally. If I'm driving it will cut out for less than a second -RPMs drop rapidly and the car slows quickly - no dash lights -then starts running again as if nothing was wrong. I can drive for 3 days and it won't happen or it will happen 4 or 5 times in the space of a few minutes. The car has about 56K miles on it. I don't know if this is related to the problem but it seemed to start when the check engine light came on for a day or so and the maintenance required light also came on. The check engine light went back out only to come back on after 4 or 5 days. The gas cap seems to be fine. I have a mechanic check it - no computer codes popped up. He got the check engine and maintenance lights out and cleaned some type of air valve which seemed to work for a few days but it's now worse than ever.

Re: 04 CRV engine cuts out
It's now much much worse. I was on the road for about 30 minutes, cuting out frequently but this time I noticed a tick tick noise whenever it cut out. The noise seemed to come from the passenger side of the dash and was louder when the glove compartment was open. All of a sudden it cut out, the transmission acted like it was in neutral, the motor would race up and down all by itself and I coasted to a stop. Put it in park, then in drive again and it worked but only barely - couldn'd go over 20 mph with it it racing up and down again. The transmission wouldn't shift. I also noticed the temperature gauge stopped working.
I'm going to try to get it to a garage tonight after work - anyone have a clue what's going on here? thanks. Mattdog |

Re: 04 CRV engine cuts out
Hey MattDog:
I sympathize re: CR-V stalling. Did you get it fixed. Here's what I emailed to my CR-V dealer a year ago when I had the same issues... "...after driving for about an hour, the vehicle seemed to 'drop out' for just a fraction of a second. When it did this, 1) you could hear a 'click-click' coming from the electronics under the passenger side seat. 2) the check engine light came on for a fraction of a second. 3) the 'D'rive indicator light went out for a second, and then reappeared. 4) the rpms dropped abruptly for just a second. It did this about four or five times, every 3 or 4 minutes, until finally, the engine light stayed on, the 'D'rive light stayed out, and the car appeared stalled. I coasted (applied no gas) to a stop, put the car in Park, and let it idle for a few minutes. The engine light stayed on. I put the car in 'D'rive and drove about 20 feet, then stopped. Engine light still on. I put the car in Park, and turned it off. I waited several minutes, turned it on, drove on..." I dealt with this for months with no help or suggestions from the morons at the dealer - they just told me "no codes, no codes". Finally, we just replaced the mainboard, and it was fixed. What's your current status? PEIDriver |
