noisy steering
My daughters '94 Regal had a slight leak in the power steering pump at the bearing. I bought a new pump and installed it, I bled the system by jacking the front end of the car up and turning the wheel back and forth to both extremes. I topped off the resevoir with fluid and took it for a test drive. It seems to steer real nice but it is making a whine noise when turning the wheel at a very low speed or turning to either extreme. I have checked the fluid and it is still full. Does this system need to be bled more? Did I get a bad pump from the parts store?

Re: noisy steering
If all you had was a leak with the old power steering pump and the whining noise was not there before then the replacement power steering pump would be suspect. What brand was it?

Re: noisy steering
Thanks for the response,
It is a Reman from Auto Zone. Not sure of the actual brand name. It may just have some air left in the system. I noticed the last time I took the filler cap off it made a little "pop" sound like it was letting air out. The fluid level doesn't seem to be going down at all though. |

Re: noisy steering
Well, I called AutoZone and told them about the loud PS pump and they gave me a different one to try. Sure enough, I had a bad one to begin with. All is quiet now.
